Barry Dunstan And Jason McGrath Are The Top American Finishers at the Grimsby Half MarathonPamela London is the Top American Woman FinisherGRIMSBY, Ontario Canada (March 3, 2002) - The 10th Annual Grimsby Half Marathon attracted 356 long distance runners and among the hardy finishers were 15 Americans, mostly from the Buffalo/Rochester area. Barry Dunstan was the top American finisher in the 13.1 mile race. He finished 9th place overall with a time of 1:21:54. Dunstan who lives and trains in Youngstown NY ran in last year's Boston Marathon too. The next best finish by an American runner was by Buffalo's Jason McGrath. McGrath, known locally for his ability to finish fast, was 36th overall with a 1:27:54 clocking. Pamela London, Kristen Gerlach, and Rebecca Fowlston were the only American women competitors. Pamela placed 24th among all the women racers in a time of 1:44:27. Kristen Gerlach of Rochester, finished 36th among the women in a time of 1:49:25. Rebecca, who resides in Buffalo, was 122nd in 2:24. The Annual Grimsby Marathon is a popular early season long distance race run over a picturesque loop course incorporating some challenging hills. The event boasts offering over $5,000 in prizes and awards. This year's race was won by Ottawa resident Jean-Paul Niyonsaba in a speedy time of 1:08:21. |
