Buffalo Mile Venue Changed AgainBUFFALO - (May 5, 2001) - The location for the very popular Buffalo Mile road races event has been changed again - but this time it is very good news. The races will now be at the original location, the Erie Basin Marina on downtown Buffalo's waterfront. Checkers president, Diane Sardes said of the switch, "There is a 150th Anniversary Buffalo Seminary parade the same day as The Buffalo Mile at 10 AM -- guess where? Down Lincoln Parkway. We found out about it last Tuesday and because of all the mixups, the city let us have it back". Similar conflicts led to the forced switch away from the waterfront earlier in the year. Checkers volunteers worked valiantly to secure a new location and succeeded in landing a good substitute venue on Lincoln Parkway. A one mile course was accurately measured and certified. Sardes noted that "Lincoln Parkway now has a great one mile measured route. It would have been a nice race, very fast on the way back and finishing downhill". The date remains set for Saturday June 9 at 9:00 A.M. and the event is a Buffalo Runner of the Year series event . The Buffalo Mile is directed by the Checkers Athletic Club.
