Shamrock Run Opens Buffalo News Runner of the Year Series
BUFFALO, NY- (March 3, 2001) -
The Buffalo News Runner of the Year series kicked off Sunday with the annual running of the Old First Ward Shamrock Run. The 8k event attracted over 2,200 runners this year. Pat Leone of Cicero won the race in 24:55 and David O'Keeffe, a many time winner of this race himself, was runner up in 25:07. Lockport's Judy Arlington won the women's division with a time of 30:30. Susan Munson, who had been slowed by injuries last year, has returned to top form to claim the runner up spot and first place among women masters runners with a time of 31:02.
The Shamrock Run is the first of thirteen events that comprise the Buffalo News Runner of the Year series. The next event in the series is the Greater Buffalo Track Club Half Marathon. The half marathon event will be held on Grand Island on April 21.
