David O'Keeffe And Family Run Wild At Chilly ChallengeCanisius Chilly Challenge 5kBUFFALO, NY- (February 25, 2001) - Western New York running enthusiasts are accustomed to seeing David O'Keeffe win races in fast times. That's just what he did Sunday at the annual Canisius Chilly Challenge 5k. O'Keeffe blasted the course with a suplerative 15:47 clocking, finishing exactly a minute ahead of his nearest competition, Dan Smaczniak. But that perhaps is to be expected. What was surprising is that O'Keeffe brought his family along to this event and it appears that being fit and winning may "run in the family". David teamed up with son Daniel and O'Keeffe's wife Mary teamed up with daughter Kathryn. The O'Keeffe men eaisily won the Father-Son category while the O'Keeffe women won the Mother Daughter category. Daniel's time was an excellent 18:19. Kathryn managed to finish a few seconds ahead of her mom in a time of 22:26. Mary O'Keeffe clocked an excellent time of 22:45. The annual Canisius Chilly Challenge attracted over 300 runners this year. The race features many categories including Canisius alumni and student divisions as well as the family and age group divisions. Complete race results are available on the results page.
