Buffalo Area Runners Compete In Indoor Track

SYRACUSE- (February 4, 2001) - An all-comers indoor track meet took place Sunday at the Manley Fieldhouse of Syracuse University. Many Buffalo area runners were present and they each competed in one of the one mile run heats.

Venerable track standout Bob Carroll cruised to a heat victory in a blazing 4:37.3, a national class performance in his over-40 age group. Also winning a heat was Checkers Athletic Club president Diane Sardes who posted a time of 6:12.7 for the indoor mile. A superlative performance was also produced by veteran womens track star Becky Heuer who sped to a 5:19.7 clocking.

Other Buffalo area runners testing themselves against the indoor mile were David Carroll (5:01.4), Hermann Pohl (5:18.6), Tony Garrow (5:34.4), Ken Gordon (5:39.0), and Sue Devlin (6:26.6).

Sunday's all-comers meet was hosted by the Syracuse Chargers Track Club. Most of the runners considered the meet a tune-up for the Upstate Indoor Distance Festival track meet which will feature the Roger Messenger Masters Mile. The upcoming almost local indoor track meet will be held Sunday, February 25 starting at 1:00 P.M. at the Bristol Fieldhouse of the Hobart & William Smith College, in Geneva, NY.
